You know you’re a Domestic Slut when…

Domestic SlutteryIt was only three months ago that Sian (Editor of Domestic Sluttery) sent me a Direct Message over Twitter asking me if I wanted to be a Domestic Slut. As it was one of my favourite blogs at the time I happily agreed and then performed a small dance around my laptop.

Since I’ve been writing for Domestic Sluttery the way I look at interiors and homeware has changed somewhat. I’ve always liked them, but they never made me excited and I certainly wouldn’t have called a sugar bowl “sexy” three months ago. A few other things have changed too which I can blame thank Domestic Sluttery for:

  • The first thing that I notice in a bar, after the cocktail menu obvs, is the wallpaper. This is only a bad thing when I decide to comment on this to the boy I’m with. Boys don’t generally like small-talk about wallpaper, I’ve discovered.
  • I have a greater appreciation for cupcakes.
  • I’ve realised that I need a (vintage, oriental-inspired) screen in my life.
  • I can’t walk past an antiques shop without pressing my nose against the window and lusting after the treasure inside.

I’d be interested to know if this is true for any of the other Domestic Sluts?

Wow, that wallpaper *is* amazing. I’m not usually in Willesden, but that place looks as though it’s worth travelling for!

What have we unleashed? Definitely agree, although I do sometimes have to repress my inner Domestic Slut for the sake of my bank balance. If I let her off the reins, though, she does tend to get overexcited by baroque furniture and feature walls. It’s a strange thing to get used to, but it definitely does make you more conscious of decor. But I like to think that it means we just appreciate the finer things more than the casual unobserver!

I’ve become a bit of a cupcake snob, I have to admit. I was offered a lovely platter yesterday, but couldn’t help thinking they had nothing on Cupcakes & Peonies…

I rework furniture in my head… I’ll see a dull ol’ table and before I know it I’ve imagined what it would look like with a lick of paint and some new doorknobs. Mentioning this to people tends to offend…

I want to repaint my room EVERY DAY. Because now I see it like getting a new dress.

I bake more. And I’ve spent every day for the last six months looking for things that might be imaginary… more on that tomorrow…

I take more care in my cake decorating to the extent I’m looking at doing a course in it!

And I spend more time on ebay looking for mismatched teacups than for dresses. Well it’s about 50/50 now I think!
